Diplomatic relations between the countries were established on April 16, 1992. In August 2023 Ignatius Graham Mudzimba became the Ambassador of the Republic of Zimbabwe to the Republic of Belarus. In November 2023 Igor Marshalov has assumed the duties of the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Belarus to the Republic of Zimbabwe.
2011 – the first high-level visit to Belarus took place. Vice-President of Zimbabwe J. Nkomo visited Minsk;
2014 – Saviour Kasukuwere, Minister of Environment, Water and Climate of Zimbabwe, paid a visit to Belarus;
2015 – bilateral contacts were significantly intensified: the governer of the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe John Mangudya and Vice President of Zimbabwe Emmerson Mnangagwa visited Belarus, the meetings were held with the President and Prime Minister of Belarus. In turn, the management of the Development Bank of the Republic of Belarus, BelAZ and Triple visited Zimbabwe;
2019 – President of Zimbabwe E. Mnangagwa paid his first official visit to Belarus, which included a number of official events, including a meeting with the Head of State. Business cooperation is actively developing. Within the framework of the multi-sectoral Zimbabwe International Trade Fair a country stand “Made in Belarus” was organized and the first Belarusian-Zimbabwean business Forum with the participation of the Belarusian Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Zimbabwe National Chamber of Commerce was held;
2023 – President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko visited Zimbabwe. Agreements in the fields of industry, trade, agriculture, energy, transport and mining were signed. During the visit, business meetings and negotiations between members of the Belarusian delegation and representatives of Zimbabwe were also held, as well as a bilateral business forum. There was a ceremony of handing over machinery produced by Belarusian manufacturers as part of the program for mechanization of Zimbabwean farms;
2024 – The Interior Ministries of the two countries signed a Memorandum of cooperation. The Interior Ministries of the two countries signed a memorandum of cooperation. In addition, the parties discussed the issue of training Zimbabwean police officers on the basis of special forces and the Academy of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Belarus.
In February this year, Harare hosted the Belarusian-Zimbabwean Business Forum “Building a Strong Partnership: Leveraging a Common Vision for a Sustainable Future” with the participation of Zimbabwe's First Vice President Constantino Chiwenga, representatives of relevant ministries, agencies and business circles of the two countries.
